Childcare lecturer raises £1000 in memory of friend and colleague

A member of staff from Newcastle-under-Lyme College has completed the grueling Three Peaks Challenge in memory of a friend and former colleague.

Louise Stalder raised a total of £1000 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice by climbing the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon), in 24 hours including travelling to and from each peak.

Louise, an Early Years Tutor at the College, explained why she chose to take on the challenge, which took place in September.

She said: “The Douglas Macmillan Hospice cared for my dear friend and colleague Marianne Howe, who passed away three years ago. She was a lecturer at the College for over 20 years, so I wanted to complete the challenge in memory of Marianne.”

Louise completed the charity challenge with her husband.

MSL Mountaineering assisted them throughout the climb, which is advisable as part of the challenge is completed in the dark.
